Rep. Adrienne Benavidez

Adrienne Benavidez represents House District 32, which includes Commerce City and parts of unincorporated Adams County. Representative Benavidez is currently the Speaker Pro Tempore and serves on the House Judiciary Committee; Finance Committee; and Chairs the Legislative Oversight Committee Concerning Tax Policy and the Committee Concerning the Treatment of Persons with Mental Health Disorders in the Criminal and Juvenile Justice Systems.

Representative Benavidez recently sponsored bills requiring immediate community notification by certain covered facilities when an emission of hazardous air pollutants occurs that is not covered by a permit; and a bill that requires four facilities that emit toxic chemicals to undertake fence line monitoring and also requires the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment to initiate community based monitoring. Representative Benavidez has also sponsored important legislation on criminal justice reform; mental health; and taxation.

Representative Benavidez is an attorney and management professional. She served as a former executive director of the City of Denver’s Department of General Services and a member of the Mayor’s Cabinet. Previously, she directed the state Division of Finance and Procurement in the Department of Personnel and Administration under Governor Bill Ritter.
